Hi there, it’s been a minute!
If you’re reading this, you probably subscribed to Ascending Bookstacks many moons ago. It was a fun project that brought contemporary nonfiction into contact with Catholic thought. It also helped me clarify my own thoughts on topics from capitalism and climate to technology and research. I hope you enjoyed it too.
As you may have noticed, Ascending Bookstacks stopped. The newsletter had to fade into the internet background noise as my dissertation picked up speed, and that’s ok. May it rest in peace.
While Ascending Bookstacks is over, I’m sending/posting this now because I’m ready for a different kind of project. You’re welcomed to stick around for the next chapter.
I’m launching The Notepad soon.
I’m about to wrap up my dissertation (yay!), but I want to keep writing while waiting to defend. That’s where The Notepad comes in. It’s a place to just write, about anything and everything in society, arts, or culture that strikes me as interesting.
We're going back to straight-up blogging, but with newsletters.
The Notepad will still be informed by my passion for faith and history, much like Ascending Bookstacks. But this time I want to write things like:
thoughts on the ChatGPT revolution
updates on my research
and other unconventional pieces, like a rambling appreciation of fantasy football and a childhood obsession with the Indianapolis Colts.
This won’t be an every-week, or even every other week, newsletter. I’ll send stuff when it’s ready and try not to under-cook it (nobody needs reading-induced-salmonella). But more importantly The Notepad will be a place for thoughtful essays I’m happy to write, and I hope it sparks some joy in this corner of the web.
Key bit of info: Ascending Bookstacks will simply become The Notepad. If you’re okay receiving The Notepad, you don’t have to lift a finger! On the other hand, if you don’t want The Notepad, no hard feelings. Just reply to this message. or, once you receive your first message from The Notepad, you can hit the little “unsubscribe” button at the bottom.
I hope you stick around though. I’m excited about what’s next.
Cheers.
